How to replace a 17mm or 27mm Drawer Runner

 June 10th 2024

Replacing 17mm or 27mm Drawer Runners involves a few simple steps:

1.     Gather tools and materials: You'll need a screwdriver, the new drawer runners, and potentially some screws depending on your situation (usually the screws from the old runners will be sufficient).

2.     Remove the drawer: Fully extend the drawer and remove the 4mm screw inside the drawer that secures the runners in place.  Complete for both runners and remove the drawer from the cabinet.

3.     Remove the old runners: On the cabinet side, there will be screws holding the runner in place. Unscrew them and detach the runner. Repeat on the other side for both runners.

4.     Install the new runners: Line up the new runner with the existing holes and secure it with the screws you removed earlier. Tighten them firmly but not excessively.  Repeat for both sides.

5.     Reinstall the drawer: Slide the drawer back into the opening, line up the hole for the 4mm screws with the hole in the drawer runner and secure the drawer ensuring it glides smoothly on the new runners.

Here are some additional tips:

·        Measure the drawer runner length: This will help you choose the correct runners.  A slightly shorter runner will reduce the extension of the drawer.  While a slightly longer runner (providing there is space in the cabinet) will increase the extension of the drawer.

·        Match the runner type: Look for runners designed for a 17mm or 27mm groove mounting.  These are the two standard sizes for groove mounted drawer slides.  If in doubt contact Unico for help.

By following these steps, you should be able to replace your old 17mm or 27mm drawer runners with new ones and enjoy smooth gliding drawers again!
